The story of Jesus and the greedy disciple
One day Jesus (peace be upon him) was traveling with one of his followers. They stopped to rest. Jesus (peace be upon him) asked the follower “Do you have anything in your pocket?” The follower said, “Yes I have two dirhams.”
Jesus (peace be upon him) took one dirham from his pocket and gave it to the follower. Then he said, “Now we have three dirhams. Go to that village there and buy three loaves of bread with the three dirhams.”
The follower went to the village. Bought the bread. On his way he thought to himself “Jesus (peace be upon him) gave me one dirham. I already had two dirhams. We will have three loaves of bread. Jesus (peace be upon him) will eat one and a half loaves. I will eat one and a half loaves.” So he decided to eat one loaf on the way.
When he got back to Jesus (peace be upon him) they ate the remaining two loaves together. After they finished eating Jesus (peace be upon him) asked the follower “How loaves did you buy with the three dirhams?“The follower stated, “I purchased two loaves.”
You had one“I possessed one.” Jesus (peace be upon him) did not speak at all.
Then they left that place. Continued on their journey. Soon they came to a river. The follower asked Jesus (peace be upon him) “How will we cross this river? There are no boats here.” Jesus (peace be upon him) said, “Do not worry, hold my clothes and follow me. If God wants we will cross the river.”
So Jesus (peace be upon him) started walking on the water. The follower held his clothes. They crossed the river and Jesus (peace be upon him) did not even get his feet wet. The follower was amazed.Declared, “I would sacrifice my life for you.” “You are a seer.”
Jesus (peace be upon him) said, “Your faith in me has increased a bit.” The follower said, “Yes my heart is full of joy.” Jesus (peace be upon him) asked, “If your heart is filled with happiness, then let me know how many loaves of bread we possessed?
” The follower said, “We had two loaves.”
Then Jesus (peace be upon him) saw some deer. Pointed to one of them. He killed the deer. They ate its meat. After they finished eating Jesus (peace be upon him) put his hand on the deers skin. Said, “Get up by the power of God.” The deer got up. Ran away with the other deer.
The follower was amazed again. Said, “Thank God for giving me a prophet like you.” Jesus (peace be upon him) said, “Your faith, in me has increased a bit more.” The follower said, “Yes my faith has increased as much.” Jesus (peace be upon him) asked, “Then how loaves of bread did we have?” The follower said, “We had two loaves.”
Jesus (peace be upon him) walked a little further. Stopped at a place where he saw three gold bricks. He said, “One brick is mine one brick is yours and one brick belongs to the person who ate the loaf.” The follower felt ashamed. Said, “I ate the third loaf.”
Jesus (peace be upon him) left the follower. He said, “Grab all three bricks.” While the follower was taking the bricks, a group of thieves appeared.
Saw him with the gold bricks. They killed the follower. Took the bricks. The robbers stated, “We have three bricks and there are three of us.”
. We will each get one brick.”
The thieves were hungry so they gave some money to a man. Asked him to buy some bread from the nearby town. The man reflected, “If I add poison to the bread, the other two thieves will perish, and I’ll claim all the bricks.”
.”
The other two thieves were also thinking of killing their partner so they could get more bricks. When the man brought the poisoned bread the other two thieves killed him. Took the bread. They ate the bread. Died from the poison.
Later when Jesus (peace be upon him) passed by that place again he saw the three gold bricks and the four dead bodies. He. Said, “This is how the world treats the people it loves.”
