The Story of Jesus and the Greedy Disciple: The Three Dirhams and Three Loaves

At one point Jesus, who is a prophet traveled with his follower. During their journey Jesus took a break. Asked his follower “Do you have anything in your pocket?” The follower replied, “Yes I have two dirhams.”

 Jesus took one dirham from his pocket. Gave it to the follower. He mentioned, “Currently we possess three dirhams.”

 Jesus then asked the follower to buy three loaves of bread from a village.

The follower went to the village. Thought about the situation. He realized that Jesus had given one dirham and he had two dirhams. They would have three loaves of bread. Jesus would eat half. The follower would eat half. So it was better for him to eat one loaf first.

The follower ate one loaf. Went back to Jesus with two loaves. After they ate Jesus asked the follower “How loaves did you buy for three dirhams?” The follower replied, “Two loaves.” You had one. I had one. Jesus was silent. They left.

During their journey, they encountered a river. The follower was surprised. Asked, “How will we cross the river?” There were no boats around. Jesus said, “Don’t worry I will lead the way. Hold my garment. Walk behind me.”

Jesus entered the river. The follower held his garment. By God’s command Jesus crossed the river with feet. The follower was amazed. Said, “I would give up many lives for you. You are a prophet.”

Jesus said, “Your belief has grown a little after seeing this miracle.” The follower replied, “Yes my heart feels lighter.” Jesus asked, “If your heart feels lighter can you tell me how many loaves were there?” The follower replied, “There were two loaves.”

Then Jesus left that place. They saw a group of deer on the path. Jesus pointed to a deer. It stopped. He killed it ate its meat. Gave some to the follower.

 After they ate Jesus touched the deer. Said, “By God’s order arise.”

The deer came back to life. Joined its friends.

The follower was amazed. Said, “I’m grateful to God for blessing me with a prophet like you.” Jesus remarked, “Your faith has increased somewhat upon witnessing this miracle.” The follower responded, “My faith has grown.a lot.” Jesus asked, “Now tell me how many loaves were there.” The follower said, “There were two loaves.”

Jesus went forward stopped at a place and saw three gold bars at the base of a hill. He said, “One bar is mine one is yours and the third belongs to the person who ate the loaf.”

The follower replied, “I ate the loaf.” Jesus left, saying, “Take the three bars.”

The follower thought about how to take the bars. Some thieves passed by saw the bars. Killed him. They said, “There are three bars and three of us so each will get one.”

The thieves were hungry. Sent one of them to buy loaves. He pondered, “What if I contaminate the bread?” He would later be the one, with the bars.

However his friends thought, “If we kill him we will each get one and a half bars.” When the friend brought poisoned bread they killed him.

They ate the bread. Both died from the poison.
